PERSONNEL FILE: Worf

After his mother's death Alexander was initially sent to live with the Rozhenkos on Earth, but a year later Helena returned with him to plead that Worf take him back for support and guidance. The two shared a testy relationship at first, but thanks to sessions with the ship's counselor — whom he eventually selected as the boy's foster parent if need be — they fared better. When a shipboard accident left him paralyzed, Worf considered the ritual Hegh'bat suicide until both Riker and Troi talked him out of it, pointing to Alexander's need for a parent; an experimental genotronic spine later restored his health. Shocked in 2370 to find his son returned through a time loop from 40 years in the future, be began allowing Alexander to find his own way — even if it was not the way of a Klingon warrior.

Revealed: Salmond's strategy for a war of independence

The pro-European effort is all part of the same agenda, weakening the links with Westminster and strengthening the bonds with Europe, stressing Scotland's place as a contributor to that forum of member states and giving the impression that Mr Salmond is Gordon Brown's equal, not his subordinate.

One move, which could prove one of the most influential, but has not been widely publicised, is the start of the process to give Scotland its own civil service, independent of Whitehall.

One of the final parts of Mr Salmond's strategy only became clear last week when he announced the creation of a Scottish Broadcasting Commission, to examine the future of the industry.

In doing so, he shifted the emphasis from his Executive to an independent commission, which will almost certainly bemoan a lack of investment and call for more autonomy.

Police investigate bizarre Copperton shooting

Neighbors say the woman who lived in the house with Lovendahl was his girlfriend. Jaroscak says Lovendahl took exception to the alleged assault. He came out of his house with a 45-caliber handgun. Jaroscak says, "We know that one shot was fired. It struck Shepherd in the arm. Apparently it traveled through his arm to his chest."What happened next has many people scratching their heads. Jaroscak says, "His friends and we're not quite sure why, either they thought they could get medical help more quickly or that the wound wasn't that severe. They actually threw him in there truck and started driving away." A long way away, more than five miles to a friend's house in West Jordan. The homeowner and his girlfriend didn't want to be identified. But neighbors Hazel and Shane Worthen say they did all they could for Shepherd.

Grandmother Mourns Two-Year-Old Struck By Metro Bus

He also liked riding the bus because both she and the boy's grandfather are, ironically, also Metro bus drivers.

Police say Isaiah was run over by a Metro bus near Fourth and Walnut streets last night, just seconds after stepping off the bus with his mother.

"Amber and her son and a friend caught the bus to Sawyer Point so they could go swimming," said Barnes, "and he was playing in the sand box and when they got done, they caught the bus back because they were going to her friend's house."

"He used to wear me out everyday," recalled Barnes. "He was just full of life – and I'm gonna miss him."

The Metro bus driver is cooperating with police.

No charges have been filed at this time.

The family has set up a fund at Fifth Third Bank to help cover the child's funeral expenses.

Hard work may earn Ole Miss freshmen playing time

OXFORD — After 10 days of preseason camp, Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron has noticed a few things about his freshmen class.

They are very, very talented football players. But at the same time, theyre still freshmen.

I havent seen many freshmen hit the wall yet, but you could see the pace starting to get to them a little bit as far as installation, the practice and all that, Orgeron said after Tuesdays practice. But theyre hanging in there.

It may be getting hectic for the new faces, but Ole Miss is counting on several to survive preseason camp and contribute immediately. Last year, 17 freshmen played and it was the second highest mark in the nation. This year, Ole Miss will again award valuable roles to freshmen.

Some of the candidates to suit up and play right away include: Linebacker Chris Strong, defensive tackles Ted Laurent and Jerrell Powe, safety Johnny Brown, defensive end LaDerrick Vaughn and receiver Lionel Breaux.
